Controlled Rage

Some paintings don't get finished in a single run. They need an aggressive edit.

I had a piece sitting in the studio for months that never quite earned its place. Not sure what I did not like about it, but something was not right. The other day I simply grabbed it, stripped off the varnish, and sanded right back through the top layer.

Scraping through the old work and rebuilding on top of what was left gave the composition its real weight and the tension the original piece lacked.

Sometimes you have to destroy a painting to save it.
