Wonders of Nature

Captivated by extraordinary events and the everyday in the realm of nature, the artist in this collection transforms her observations into compelling abstract pieces, showcasing a distinctive interpretation of colour

Sleeping Through Blue Twilight

Did you know sunsets on Mars are blue? I learnt about it relatively recently and the idea stayed with me long enough to inspire this piece. As I worked, something unexpected emerged on the panel: a figure, resting quietly within the hues of twilight. The paining became a nod to the otherwordly calm of these Martian sunsets I imagined and maybe the quiet we all crave here on Earth sometimes.

MidSummer

A few weeks ago I did something I wanted to do for many years, but haven’t had the guts to do so. On summer solstice, I got up at 4am and set off for a walk by myself in the local woods to welcome the sunrise about 50 mins later. As beautiful as the sunrise was, I was far more enchanted by the light that reflected on the undergrowth and the buzzing noise of insects!

Capturing the essence of a muted winter morning, this works portrays a cluster of these delicate white flowers signalling the approaching transition to spring, I spotted on the way to the studio.

I was simply enchanted looking down from a hill in South Downs across the fields basking in an evening sun on a late summer afternoon.

Cool Breeze

During the scorching summer of '22, amidst record-breaking temperatures soaring up to 40°C in the UK, I envisioned a serene scene where a gentle breeze swept through, offering relief from the relentless heat. This painting captures that longing for a cooler, more comforting atmosphere amid the sweltering days of July.

Looking East at the Sunset

I know the sun rises, not sets, in the East! But one evening, during a most spectacular sunset I turned around and looked eastward. I was struck by the equal beauty of the twilight marking the onset of nightfall. It inspired the colours of this painting and its title - a playful twist on the expectations.

Whispers of the Urban Fox

Urban foxes can have a bad rep, but I enjoy occasionally spotting them in the city going around their business. They move confidently, seemingly unfazed by people, traffic and the general city noise. One of these encounters, provided a basis for this painting – there was something cheeky, playful yet charming about him.
